Mango Wood:
This product is crafted from a special hardwood: mango
wood from India. This wood is highly sustainable, as it is a byproduct of the food industry,
specifically mango fruit production. Mango trees grow on a large scale in India and
mature quickly, in just 15 years, compared to other hardwoods like oak, which can take 50 to 100
years. The trees produce fruit abundantly during their early years, but as they age,
fruit production declines, making them less valuable for mango plantations.
The solution for mango farmers is to cut down and replant the trees. Through this process,
the wood from mango trees becomes truly sustainable. After serving its purpose in food
production, the wood is given a second life as furniture. Mango wood has a warm base color,
but due to the natural color variations in the wood, each piece may differ slightly.
This gives each piece of furniture a robust and unique appearance.
The wood also features saw marks that add a vintage twist.

Finish:
The mango wood is sanded and finished with a sealer and wax layer for protection
against water stains.

Care Instructions:
– Occasionally wipe with a slightly damp or dry cloth without heavy stitching to avoid scratches.
– Avoid using any cleaning tools with rough surfaces.
– Avoid polishes or cleaning agents containing silicone, as these can dry out natural wood over time.
– Do not use cleaning agents or products that contain ammonia.
– Rub wax into the wood for a beautiful shine and a natural protective layer. This also helps prevent the wood from drying out.
– Mineral (wood) oil can be applied with a cloth, which will produce a protective surface over time.

The trees grow on a large scale in India and they mature quickly: in 15 years instead of for instance oaks (50-100 years). The fruit production is good in the first period of the tree. As it grows older, fruit production also decreases. That is why this tree is economically less valuable on the mango plantations. The solution for mango farmers is then: cut down and replant. Because of this way of working, the wood of the mango tree is really sustainable. Forest is not just cut down. After his life as a food producer, the wood gets a second life as a piece of furniture.

We sanded the mango wood and gave it a sealer coating for the protection of water stains. The coating gives a natural look to the wood, instead of making the color dark or yellowish we kept it as original as possible. The iron parts on the items are powder coated in a gun-metal finish.

Maintenance:
-Wipe down periodically with a slightly damp or dry dust cloth that contains no heavy stitching, in order to avoid scratches.
-Avoid all cleaning tools with a rough surface.
-Avoid polish or cleaning products containing silicone, which can dry out natural wood over time.
-Do not use detergents or any cleaning products that contain ammonia.
-Rub wax in to the wood to create a beautiful shine and a natural protective finish. It also prevents the wood from drying out.
-Mineral oil can be applied using a cloth. This will build up over time to produce a protective surface.
