This product is crafted from a special hardwood: mango wood from India. This wood species is highly sustainable, as it is a byproduct of the food industry, namely
mango fruit. The trees grow extensively in India and mature rapidly: 15 years instead of, for example, oak (50-100 years). The fruit production is good in the initial period of the tree. As it
ages, the fruit production decreases. Therefore, this tree becomes less economically valuable on mango plantations. The solution for mango farmers is to cut and replant. This method of operation makes mango wood truly sustainable. After its life as a food producer, the wood gets a second life as furniture. The base of mango wood has a warm color, but due to variations in the wood, there may be deviations. It gives each piece of furniture a robust and unique appearance.

The mango wood is sanded and coated with a sealer and wax layer to protect against water stains.

Maintenance
– Occasionally wipe with a lightly damp or dry cloth without heavy stitching to prevent scratches.
– Avoid all cleaning tools with a rough surface.
– Avoid polish or cleaning products containing silicone, as these can naturally dry out the wood over time.
– Do not use cleaning agents or products containing ammonia.
– Rub wax into the wood for a beautiful sheen and a natural protective layer. This also prevents the wood from drying out.
– Mineral (wood) oil can be applied with a cloth. Over time, this will produce a protective surface.

Maintenance

The tabletop is finished with a water-repellent sealer that provides protection against daily use and minor moisture stains. We recommend wiping up spills immediately and using coasters for glasses and hot items.

As wood is a natural material, it may respond to changes in temperature and humidity. To keep the wood in good condition, we recommend maintaining an indoor humidity level between 40% and 60% and avoiding placement near radiators or air conditioning units.

In Indonesia, teak is mainly grown on plantations. Furniture makers generally use teak from these plantations or locally reclaimed wood. As teak in Indonesia is not sourced from natural tropical forests, no tropical rainforest needs to be cleared for this wood.

Since 2016, the Indonesian government has regulated the timber trade through a system that traces wood back to its source. This system is part of the FLEGT trade agreement with the EU and helps ensure that only legally sourced timber enters the European Union.

Carpenter bench from recycled teak

The Carpenter teak bench comes from Indonesia and is made from recycled teak wood. Benches like these were once used in bars, street food stalls and shops. Because of this, every bench has its own story. You can see this in the seat, the wood and the finish.

With a size of approx. 80 x 17 x 50 cm, this is a narrow, elongated version. Use it as an extra seat in the hallway, as a low table behind the sofa or as a wooden bench against an empty wall.

Each Carpenter bench has an original seat. The wood from old legs is also given a second life in the new legs. This means no two benches look exactly the same. Colour differences, old marks of use, small imperfections and slight variations in size are part of this product.

Because of its narrow shape, the bench works well in places where a regular bench or table would quickly feel too large. Place it under a window, next to a low armchair, in a narrow hallway or at the end of a bed. It is also easy to move when you need a small table or extra seat for a moment.

Our old and vintage benches are not new or artificially aged. Over the years, the recycled wood has acquired a beautiful used, weathered finish. The benches bear markings and scratches corresponding to their age and level of use. At our factory in India, we repair all furniture ourselves, replacing broken planks with slats from other benches or tables, and removing nails from the wood.

Over time, limewash became popular as a decorative finish due to its natural, chalky appearance and the ability to create various textures and effects. Today, the limewash finish is fully on -trend, valued for its rustic elegance and touch of old-world charm. The limewash color adds a beautiful whitewashed and natural look to our furniture, perfect for a vintage and distressed appearance that enhances the wood’s natural beauty. Our limewash furniture pieces can be used both indoors and outdoors, depending on the the desired appearance and protection. For outdoor use in a warm climate, the wood will naturally develop a weathered grey finish over time. In more humid environments, we recommend applying a sealer for extra water resistance and durability.
