Chakki side table from recycled wood
This Chakki table works well near a low seating area, beside an armchair or as a small coffee table on a rug. The round shape and low height make it useful for a bowl, candles, books, a vase or home accessories.
The tabletop has a raised edge and decorative carving around the side. The wooden legs and visible marks of use give each table its own appearance. This means no two pieces are exactly the same.
The history of the Chakki
A Chakki was originally used as a traditional grinder or grinding stone. In India, these mills were used to grind grains into flour. Smaller versions were often used in household settings, while larger versions were used at village level.
With this table, the old Chakki shape gets a new function as a low piece of furniture for the home. The round tray shape, raised edge and carved wooden details still refer to its original use.
Material
For this Chakki side table, we use FSC recycled wood. This wood has had a previous life and now gets a second use as furniture. As a result, colour differences, small cracks, old repairs, knots and marks of use may be visible.
These details are part of the material and make every table different. The recycled wood gives the table a lived-in look rather than a new, polished finish.
Maintenance
Wipe the side table with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaning products and do not leave moisture on the wood for too long. Use coasters for glasses, mugs or plant pots.
