Origin
Our Invierno tables are made from FSC-certified recycled teak wood and carry the FSC label. This recycled teak originates from old plantations in Indonesia. The source of this wood is considered responsible, as these plantations are sustainably managed by the Indonesian government.
For centuries, teak has been a preferred hardwood for furniture, construction, and shipbuilding due to its exceptional durability and suitability for outdoor use. Teak is native to India, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar, but extensive logging has resulted in natural teak forests remaining only in Myanmar.
Teak was introduced to Indonesia in the 16th century, and during the Dutch colonial period, large plantations were established. After Indonesia gained independence, the plantations came under government management. This has proven highly successful, as teak is a valuable timber and it has always been economically viable to replant trees after harvesting. Virtually all teak used in Indonesian furniture production comes from these plantations. Only limited amounts of teak from small local farms near villages are used for domestic purposes. Since teak does not grow naturally in Indonesia’s tropical forests, no tropical rainforest is cleared for teak production.
Since 2016, the Indonesian government has regulated all timber trade through a traceability system that tracks wood back to its source and the location where the trees were harvested. This system forms part of the FLEGT trade agreement with the European Union, ensuring that only legally sourced timber is imported into the EU. Together, these measures make teak production in Indonesia—and its use in furniture manufacturing—both economically and environmentally sustainable.

Care & Maintenance
Our furniture is crafted from carefully kiln-dried wood. However, wood remains a natural material that absorbs and releases moisture depending on humidity levels and ambient temperatures. During the winter months in particular, wood may expand or contract more noticeably due to indoor heating and reduced ventilation.
We recommend maintaining an indoor humidity level between 40% and 60%. If humidity falls below this range, consider using humidifiers or water evaporators. It is also advisable not to place wooden furniture near radiators, heaters, or air-conditioning units.
Even after winter, maintaining proper humidity and ventilation throughout the home remains important.
Despite thorough drying and moisture treatment processes, small shrinkage cracks may occasionally occur, particularly at the ends of planks or furniture components. This is a natural characteristic of wood and is usually barely noticeable. If a larger crack develops, we recommend contacting our customer service team.
- The wood is finished with a water-based coating that helps protect against water stains. However, the furniture is intended for indoor use only, and liquids should not be left standing on the surface for extended periods.
- Minor damage or scratches in the natural wood finish can be treated locally using a transparent or very lightly tinted wood oil.
